After winning three games in a row, the Metropolis Avengers are just one win away from winning their second World Series in a row and third in four years. The visiting Santa Barbara Outlaws are simply trying to win Game Five, which would push the series back to Santa Barbara for Game Six.
The Avengers had their top starter on the mound, but the Outlaws got to Carlos Carrasco right away. Jose Altuve hit a one-out single and star catcher Buster Posey followed by launching a home run deep into the left field stands. That put the Outlaws up 2-0 and quickly erased any thought they would roll over and hand the Avengers the 2015 Brassball title without a fight.
The Avengers tried to rally in the bottom of the second inning. Melky Cabrera started the inning with a walk and one batter later, Jose Reyes ripped a double down the right field line. Unfortunately for the Avengers, Cabrera had been erased on a Jose Bautista double play, leaving Reyes with no one to drive in with his line drive. Jayson Werth then struck out and the Outlaws chose to walk Pablo Sandoval intentionally, bringing Chris Iannetta to the plate. Iannetta swung over a Hiroki Kuroda curve ball to end the inning and strand two runners.

Metropolis got another leadoff walk to start the bottom of the third, this one by Andrew McCutchen. He was still on first base after outs by Robinson Cano and Steve Pearce, but cleanup hitter Melky Cabrera did his job, squaring up a Kuroda fastball for a home run to right-center field to tie the game at two.
Santa Barbara quickly took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning. They also benefited from a leadoff walk. Jason Heyward took the walk and Posey moved him to third with a single up the middle. JD Martinez followed with a ground ball that advanced Posey to second, but Heyward held his ground at third. Edwin Encarnacion came through with runners in scoring position, hitting a ball just out of Werth's reach. Encarnacion's double drove home both Heyward and Posey to give the Outlaws the two-run lead they had just surrendered the inning before.
Metropolis put two runners on with one in the bottom of the sixth, hoping for a clutch hit to cut into the Santa Barbara lead. The Outlaws brought in reliever Sean Doolittle and the Avengers countered with pinch hitter Gregorio Petit. Doolittle got the best of the matchup and struck out Petit for the second out of the inning. Iannatta then came to the plate, giving him another chance with two outs and two runners on. Just like he did in the bottom of the second inning, Iannatta struck out to end the inning with the tying runs on base.

Metropolis brought in Zach Putnam for the seventh inning, but the reliever left his control in the bullpen. Putnam walked pinch hitter Carlos Santana and Nolan Arenado to start the inning. Elvis Andrus sacrificed the runners to second and third, but gave up his team's first out to do so. Denard Span struck out and Putnam was one out from escaping the inning. However, the reliever lost his control again. The diminuative Jose Altuve was at the plate and drew the third Outlaw walk of the inning, loading the bases with two outs. Metropolis had seen enough and called on Craig Kimbrel to escape the jam and keep the score 4-2. Jason Heyward was up to the challenge and turned around a Kimbrel fastball for a clean single between first and second. Santana and Arenado both scored, increasing the Outlaw lead to 6-2.
The game stayed 6-2 into the bottom of the ninth. The Outlaws looked to close out the win and send the series back to Santa Barbara. The Avengers, however, looked to rally and either send the game into extra innings or wrap up the World Series at home. Jayson Werth got things started when he leaned into a Drew Storen pitch and was rewarded with a hit by pitch. Petit followed with a single. The Avengers sent Michael McKenry to the plate as a pinch hitter for Iannetta, who was 0-3 with three strikeouts, each of which had ended an inning with runners on base. The Outlaws brought in Ken Giles, their rookie closer, to face the pinch hitter. McKenry picked up right where Iannetta left off and struck out for the first out of the inning.

With one out, a four run lead and their star closer in the game, the Outlaws looked in good shape. However, Giles lost his control and hit McCutchen with a slider to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate. Robinson Cano ripped a double into right-center, driving home Werth and Petit, moving McCutchen to third and putting the tying run into scoring position with just one out.
Steve Pearce was next up, and the Avengers had traded for him in July for at bats just like this. However, Giles dominated Pearce and struck him out on four pitches for the second out of the inning. Down to its last out, Metropolis sent pinch hitter Matt Wieters to the plate, looking for a clutch hit to tie the game. It was a risky move, as Wieters had spent the entire night watching from the bench and was being asked to come through in the most high-leverage position possible. Additionally, they took the bat away from Melky Cabrera, who had already homered earlier in the game. Wieters worked the count full at 2-2, but then took a changeup over the outside corner for strike three. Giles pumped his fist and let out a quick scream as he closed out the game for a 6-4 Outlaw win.
