Brassball NLCS Metropolis vs. Springfield - Game Four

Game four of the NLCS was a rematch of game one.  Metropolis's Doug Fister hoped to avenge the team's game one loss as he again faced Springfield's Tim Lincecum.  The Isotopes were looking to tie the series at two and avoid falling into a deep 3-1 hole.  The game was decided early when Springfield scored eight runs in the second inning on the way to an easy 13-2 win.

Marco Scutaro scored on
Todd Helton's two-out single.
Springfield started the scoring early, putting up a run in the bottom of the first when Todd Helton drove home Marco Scutaro with a two-out single.  Despite going ahead early, the Isotopes may have felt like they missed a chance when they two runners in the first, but that was quickly forgotten.

Lance Berkman's homer
put Springfield ahead 7-0.
That first run only got the Isotopes started, as their first ten hitters reached base in the second, on the way to a nine-run inning.  Three runs had already scored in the frame by the time Lance Berkman came to the plate with two runners on.  He homered to made it 7-0 Springfield and drove Fister from the game.  Young lefty Aroldis Chapman came on in relief in hopes he could hold Springfield down and give Metropolis a chance to rally.  It didn't work out that way, as Jesus Guzman misplayed a Hunter Pence grounder and Chapman couldn't collect a Helton come backer.  That restarted the rally and had two runners on with no outs for Ryan Zimmerman.  The third baseman singled and Melky Cabrera walked before Jerry Hairston Jr. hit a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning.  Scutaro eventually grounded out to end the inning, leaving the bases loaded and Metropolis looking up at a nine run deficit.

Metropolis starter Doug Fister lost his second NLCS start,
giving up seven hits and seven runs in one inning.
Metropolis scored its first run in the fourth on an Alex Gordon sac fly after Andrew McCutchen led off the inning with a triple.  The team really needed to string together base runners, but Lincecum wouldn't allow it.  He gave up just four hits and a walk in his seven innings of work.

Avenger reliever David Herndon ran into more trouble in the fifth.  The score was 9-1 when he allowed consecutive one-out singles to Berkman, Pence and Helton to allow another run.  Cabrera capped the inning with a three-run homer and it was suddenly 13-1.

Both teams seemed to go on cruise control after that. Metropolis couldn't put together a serious rally until they pushed across a single run in the ninth to make the final score 13-2.
That tied the series at two games and set up a game five matchup between Avenger ace C.C. Sabathia and fellow lefty Randy Wolf.  No matter who wins, the series will return to Metropolis for game six and game seven, if necessary.
